Yondelis®(trabectedin) Yondelis® (trabectedin) also referred as ET-743 during its development, is a marine derived antitumoral agent discovered in the colonial tunicate Ecteinascidia turbinata and now produced synthetically. Yondelis has a unique mechanism of action. It binds to the minor groove of DNA interfering with cell division and genetic transcription processes and DNA repair machinery. Yondelis® has received Authorization for Commercialization from the European Commission for advanced soft tissue sarcoma, after failure of anthracyclines and ifosfamide, or who are unsuited to receive these agents. Other Phase II trials with Yondelis include breast, prostate, and paediatric sarcomas. Yondelis has been granted Orphan Drug designation from the European Commission (EC) and the US Food & Drug Administration (FDA) for Soft Tissue Sarcomas and Ovarian Cancer. Yondelis® is currently being developed by PharmaMar in partnership with Johnson & Johnson Pharmaceutical Research & Development (J&JPRD). Once marketing Authorization is granted by the E.C, PharmaMar will market Yondelis in Europe (including Eastern Europe) while Ortho Biotech Products, L.P. will market it in the U.S. and the rest of the world.
